I actually had low expectations for this book.
To start off, I knew that a bunch of vloggers and bloggers received an ARC of this book, so it automatically went on my to-read list.
Second, I had heard mixed reviews, and a lot of negative things about this, so I had to see the buzz.
And I read the book, and I liked it.
The plot is really new and fresh. It's a dystiopian, and tells that in the future, the Society chooses everything for you, including who you end up with. When Cassia Reyes turns 17, she is Matched with her best friend, Xander.
Nothing big, right? Wrong.
When Cassia goes back to the Matcher, she is Matched with someone she knows, who
isn't Xander. Ky.
Cassia has to decide whether she should be with Xander or with Ky.
The flow is the thing that didn't receive a star, because there would be a few chapters that went together really well...and then it would go to some random scene, like hiking.
Obviously, the pacing of the book was really quick, which really adjusted properly in this book, and the amount of world-building that happened didn't trump the actual development of the plot and the characters themselves. They really weaved into the conflict, which was truly appreciated on my behalf, because not a lot of books use the world-building as a device for working with the conflict and its ultimate (sort of) resolution.
Overall, the book was good, and I read it in a day.
The sequel,
Crossed, is released later on in 2011 or early 2012.
