Pottermore Slytherins to get the first peek at 'Chamber of Secrets'

Unsurprisingly, the 'big surprise' that the winners of the House Cup will receive in--as speculated--the first peek at the Chamber of Secrets book on Pottermore. The Pottermore Insider reported today that the Slytherins would get to explore the book, but that the other Houses will be able to read it 24 hours later.

Congratulations to the Slytherins! Please don't spoil the Gryffindors, Ravenclaws, and Hufflepuffs!

Pottermore update: Slytherin wins the Inaugural Pottermore House Cup; 'Chamber of Secrets' to be 'unlocked very soon!'

Today, July 5, was the day that Pottermore presented its inaugural House Cup to the House with the most points, which--throughout Pottermore's first year, was Slytherin. Congratulations to the Slytherin House!

Also something very interesting is that, if you click on Book 2 Chapter 1 on the site, a message comes up that says that Chamber of Secrets will be 'unlocked very soon!' This is a step-up considering nothing used to happen when you clicked on any CoS chapters, so we can expect book 2 hopefully by the end of the month!

Rumored: 'Sea of Monsters' release date pushed back!

According to Hypable, Percy Jackson & the Olympians: Sea of Monsters has been pushed back from releasing March 2013 to August 2013--giving it that back-to-school release date, and also--interestingly enough--a few months before The Hunger Games: Catching Fire is set to be released. The film will be released August 16, 2013.

What are your thoughts on the back-to-school approach? Honestly, we think that it may be a bad move, because a lot of hectic things occur in that time period, and not everyone invests in attending films. Big films recently have not been opening during that time slot.

Veronica Roth speculates the release date of 'Divergent' book three

Divergent author, Veronica Roth, semi-formally announced via her blog that the third book in the Divergent trilogy will be released in the Autumn of 2013, as opposed to the expected Spring of 2013. Veronica Roth states her reasoning as being able to "polish" the book, which does heighten our hopes for Detergent's outcome!

You guys DO know Detergent isn't the book's ACTUAL title, right?

'Doctor Who' series 7 to debut in August (?)

According to The Guardian, The MediaGuardian Edinburgh International Television Festival will be debuting the opener of the seventh series of Doctor Who, the long-awaited return with the final season of Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill, and the opening season for the Doctor's next companion, who will be played by Jenna Louise Coleman.

At last year's festival, Let's Kill Hitler was premiered and debuted on BBC the next day, so perhaps that will be the same case this year, meaning the episode could perhaps air on August 25!

What are you hoping to see from the Doctor's return?

J.K. Rowling announces the title and release date for her next book!

Big news that will no doubt go in history; Joanne Kathleen Rowling has announced that the title of her adult novel will be...

The Casual Vacancy

!!!

Little, Brown provides a summary, as well:

When Barry Fairweather dies unexpectedly in his early forties, the little town of Pagford is left in shock.
Pagford is, seemingly, an English idyll, with a cobbled market square and an ancient abbey, but what lies behind the pretty façade is a town at war.
Rich at war with poor, teenagers at war with their parents, wives at war with their husbands, teachers at war with their pupils…Pagford is not what it first seems.
And the empty seat left by Barry on the parish council soon becomes the catalyst for the biggest war the town has yet seen. Who will triumph in an election fraught with passion, duplicity and unexpected revelations?
Blackly comic, thought-provoking and constantly surprising, The Casual Vacancy is J.K. Rowling’s first novel for adults.

The Casual Vacancy will be released September 27, 2012 in bookstores!

Jo has also updated her official website to include an interesting timeline of news over the past few years, including Pottermore and The Casual Vacancy.
