'The Gift' Book Review

The Gift by James Patterson and Ned Rust
Little, Brown Company
341 p. in U.S. Hardback
2010

One Star for Character Development
One Star for Ending
One Star for Plot

The book is a HUGE let-down. While it does deserve my coveted FANTASTIC COVER award, and is much better than the first book, Witch & Wizard.
The book is about Wisty and Whit Allgood, a witch and wizard, who are on the run from the New Order. Magic is illegal in the Order and they will be executed if found. Sounds thrilling, right? Well it isn't.

In the book, a relationship between Wisty and the annoying Byron Swain builds, and it came from nowhere. Byron really got on my nerves a lot, but I guess I can see where JP was going with this relationship...two annoying characters paired together. That's right: Wisty is ANNOYING.

In the first book, I loved Wisty. In this book, she was too typical-teen, and her voice was different. I could tell that Patterson wasn't very good at writing as a teen, except for in Maximum Ride. While in the first book, I dreaded Whit's chapters, in this one: I anticipated them.

I really hope that the third book is better, but I have no high expectations. Sorry, Witch and Wiz.

*ATTENTION* All 'The Mortal Instruments' Fans : Clary HAS Been Cast!

It has been announced by Cassandra Clare(at least to me), that Lily Collins(The Blind Side, Nickelodeon) has been cast as Clary in the new 'City of Bones' feature film! We're ahead of 'The Hunger Games' filming progress, which means we can probably see the film late next year to about spring or summer of 2012. I personally at first was skeptical of Lily being Clary, but then I saw a picture of her with curly red hair and she looked perfect. If you haven't read City of Bones, you'd BETTER go pick it up.

So...if you haven't heard of the picto-word book, 'The Invention of Hugo Cabret', then you're lost in the world of literary works. Well, the film is being adapted, and new information over the director, AND cast(including Chloe Moretz, you know, HIT GIRL!!). The director is Martin Scorsese, and Asa Butterfield is set to play Hugo. I'm so excited to see this amazing novel morph onto screen.

I absolutely love this book. I read it when the first film came out, but didn't really understand it. Now that I do, I read it in two hours. I love everything about this book, and the character of Jadis really is such a witch. Aslan and Jadis are such a strong representation of Good and Evil/God and Satan. The Pevensie children are great representations of heroes, and even the tale of Adam and Eve. Lucy enters the world of Narnia out of curiosity, as does Edmund. This reminded me immediately of the Genesis tale, and even more of it when Mr. Tumnus refers to humans as 'Sons of Adam' or 'Daughters of Eve'.

Instead, it turns out to be her last.
Then she gets a second chance.
Seven chances, in fact. Reliving her last day during one miraculous week, she will untangle the mystery surrounding her death-and discover the true value of everything she is in danger of losing.

This book was AMAZING. I literally could not stop reading it once I started, and there were surprises every single page that I never knew existed. The book really makes you think about the outcome of the decisions that you make. The ending was really surprising and I just loved the book cover-to-cover.
